About Napa Valley Custom Saunas

Who We Are

Napa Valley Custom Saunas is a small building company with a narrow focus: rooms made for heat, plus the tubs and plunges that sit beside them. Our carpenters spent years fitting cabinetry and trim in valley homes and tasting rooms before moving into this work, and they found that a good sauna asks for the same precision along with a solid grasp of moisture, airflow and electrical load. Those last three are where most of our attention still goes, because they decide how a room performs long after the finish carpentry stops drawing compliments.

How long we have been building

Saunas have been our full-time trade for more than ten years, and the crew brought long carpentry careers with them. Over that stretch we have met most of what Napa County property can present: a well pump sharing a subpanel with the only spare breaker, balloon framing behind plaster in an Old Town Victorian, a Howell Mountain parcel with a single-lane drive and a sharp switchback. Each one taught us something we now check on the first visit, and that experience is what sits behind our Napa Valley sauna builder work today.

Our story

The company started with a converted tack room on a small horse property east of Napa. We fitted a heater that looked right on paper and turned out to be far too large for the space, so the room overshot its temperature and the thermostat kept cutting out. Swapping it for a smaller unit and reworking the intake vent fixed the problem, and it changed how we plan every room. Heater sizing, bench height and air movement now get worked out on paper first, which is the core of our custom sauna design process.

The team

We are a compact crew of finish carpenters and sauna specialists who have trained in Finnish building methods as well as current North American practice. The group is small on purpose, so the person who measures your garage or garden is also cutting the tongue-and-groove and setting the stones. Bench tops are fixed from below so no screw heads touch skin, and backrests are spaced for real shoulders. Most of us take a sauna several times a week, and it shows in the details of our custom saunas, from the reach to the ladle to the way the door closes against its seal.

Brands we install

We install electric heaters from Harvia, Huum, Saunum and Tylo, wood stoves from Kuuma and Harvia, and steam generators from Mr. Steam and ThermaSol. For cold water we fit chillers and filtration from established plunge makers with parts stocked in the United States. Our picks are based on efficiency, service support and how easy the unit is to repair in ten years. The same reasoning guides every sauna installation we take on, and it is why our steam saunas use generators with automatic flush cycles to fight hard-water scale.

Why we love this work

The best part comes after the tools are packed. A client takes a first session, pours water on the stones and hears the hiss, and the room stops being a project and becomes part of their routine. That makes the permit counters and the long trenches worth it. Our projects across the Napa Valley run from a small indoor sauna in a spare room to an outdoor sauna above the vines with a cold plunge beside it, and each began with an owner describing how they wanted to feel at the end of the day.

Our mission

To build saunas, soaking tubs and cold plunges that people in this valley use through every season, from the frosty weeks of winter through the long heat of harvest.

What we value

  • A job takes as long as it needs, and a bench that needs another day gets one.
  • We choose solid wood and finishes that stay stable at sauna temperatures.
  • If a smaller or cheaper option suits you better, we recommend it.
  • One point of contact stays with you from the site walk to the handover.
